Artist Talk - Weave - Ben Custance

In 2020 the Rural City of Wangaratta commissioned three major public artworks within the major redevelopment of the Railway Precinct Redevelopment. One of the successful commissions, Weave by artist Ben Custance, was inspired by Wangaratta Textile industry, referencing the towns history and what has become part of the towns artistic and cultural identity. Join the artist on site at the sculpture to hear about the inspiration drawn from the Bruck Factory looms and much more.
Benjamin Custance is a designer, maker and artist. He is the founder and creative director of Deploy Studio, a Melbourne-based design studio. He works across many disciplines and translates concepts to reality through a hybrid of art, design and fabrication methods. His formal education as an industrial designer, alongside a practical skillset, merges for a unique and holistic approach to his work. Much of his work is influenced by the built and natural environment and he also explores perceptions of scale and materiality through immersive environments.
