Nature journaling is the practice of connecting and responding to nature through a creative medium. Drawing, painting, writing, photography, printmaking, collage or any medium you feel inspired by can be your creative tool to create your journal. A nature journal is a place to explore your thoughts, feelings, curiosity and creative expression in response to nature.
Nature journaling enables you to interpret the environment and your relationship to it, it may be writing a poem about your garden, recording the bloom times of different flowers through sketches, photographing chicks hatching or keeping a list of species you see on your property. How you engage in your practice is up to you, the only requirement is to take some time, connect with nature and be curious through creativity!
Over our 5 week program you’ll be guided through nature journaling by 5 wonderful local artists whose work is inspired and reflective of the Wangaratta landscape. Each week a different artist will lead you through their creative processes, providing insight into how they connect with nature and express this in their work. They will then guide you through a nature journaling activity that you can do offline in your own time in nature.
The weekly meetings via Zoom will provide you with an opportunity to connect with other people in your community who share a love of nature and are inspired to get outside and be creative! In these weekly meets you’ll be encouraged to share your nature experiences, thoughts and creations. A private Facebook group will be established to create a space for people to stay connected outside of the Zoom sessions and for people to share their journals, inspirations and support each other in their journaling. The Facebook group will also provide people with more activities and resources to develop their journaling practice.
Online via Zoom. You will then be encouraged to find some time for yourself to go outside and connect with nature, perhaps it’s your garden, your property or a local bushwalk, these are all places you can draw inspiration for your journals.
You will be sent a link to Zoom and information about how to join the Facebook page when you register below.
*Please note, prior experience with materials and drawing is not necessary for this workshop program. All you need is a desire to explore your creativity and you will grow your skills as you go! It’s all about having fun and trying new ways of connecting with nature.
