Shadow Murmurs explores the translation of an idea between one medium to another, the creative potential and the slippage that arises. Taking initial inspiration from the biological complexity and diversity of microscopic creatures, their cycles of life and the spaces in which these cycles unfold, Julie Monro-Allison’s woven textile sculptures and graphite drawings consider the losses and gains experienced. What changes when a drawing becomes a textile form, or when a paper assemblage becomes an ink drawing? Is the physicality of the three-dimensional world experienced as a constraint, or as a freedom? The exhibition explores these questions through a process of interpretation and iteration.
