Monday 13 to Friday 17 October 2025

Wangaratta Art Gallery, in collaboration with the Rural City of Wangaratta's Youth Engage program, is offering a free series of workshops aimed at young people aged 12-25, led by renowned artist Jayanto Tan.

Bring your students on a vibrant, hands-on learning journey in these engaging workshops which combine art, culture, sustainability, and storytelling - perfect for cross-curricula learning in Visual Arts, Humanities, and Wellbeing.

Students will:

  • Explore future foods like edible packaging, insects, and algae through discussion and sketching
  • Create colourful clay sculptures inspired by sustainability and innovation
  • Share morning tea and stories, using food as a bridge to explore culture, identity, and empathy
  • Develop creative thinking, collaboration, and personal expression in a safe, inclusive space

Each session includes:

  • An engaging introduction by Jayanto
  • Guided discussion and idea development
  • Clay-making using air-dry materials
  • Opportunities for storytelling and reflection
  • A relaxed, supportive environment that encourages imagination and connection

The workshop series culminates in an
Art Party showcasing student work, including giant inflatables designed from their ideas.

Flexible formats available for half-day or full-day sessions. Ideal for Years 7–11. We offer a free 'Artbus' service for Wangaratta and surrounding schools in the region to participate. Please contact the gallery on 03 5722 0865 or gallery@wangaratta.vic.gov.au to find out more and to book.
