Friday 3 May 2024 | from 5pm

Join us for the opening reception of our next suite of exhibitions, Petite Miniature Textiles 2024 and
Shadow Murmurs. Artist Julie Monro-Allison will speak about her work in Shadow Murmurs at 5pm prior to the exhibition launch at 5.30pm.

One of Wangaratta Art Gallery’s most popular exhibitions, Petite Miniature Textiles, showcases innovative textile practice from across Australia, in small scale. The biennial exhibition brings together a diversity of artists and approaches. This year the works included in Petite have been selected by Guest Curator, artist and previous Petite exhibitor, Susie Losch and Wangaratta Art Gallery Director Rachel Arndt around the theme 'of the times'. Featuring 30 works from across the country, the exhibition explores a multitude of contemporary concerns from artificial intelligence to affordable housing.

Shadow Murmurs explores the translation of an idea between one medium to another across sculpture and drawing. Taking initial inspiration from the biological complexity and diversity of insects and other creatures, their cycles of life and the spaces in which these cycles unfold, artist Julie Monro-Allison’s works creatively consider the losses and gains experienced.

The exhibitions will be opened by designer Tara Whalley, whose self-titled sustainable fashion brand features her own artworks. Tara's work has featured in both the New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, and she has been a finalist in the Victorian Premier Design Award and the Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award.
